He regards any finished product as the gift to the listener and his prolific career is full of gifts.

Michael Houston is a seasoned Midwest based music producer, songwriter, and musician whose creativity is on the cutting edge of today’s music scene.

R&B, Pop, Gospel are his influences and his songs come from places he goes, things he does. By the age of twenty-two, his passion for music moved Michael to design and build a twenty four track recording facility in Chicago, IL, which he owned and operated, and in which he was the chief engineer. It was this experience that led him to produce and record several local acts that advanced on to major record labels. One night, at a downtown Chicago Music Convention, Michael caught the attention of the oldest black owned record label’s CEO, Dr. Leonard Scott (Tyscot Records). At that time, Michael was involved in a label deal in which he released three to four albums per year, through Tyscot Distribution. This eventually opened the door for a lasting relationship and relocation to Indianapolis In, where he was appointed as A & R Director and Staff Producer. Since the beginning of that deal, Michael has produced over 60 albums and has also been a key factor in the signing and development of many of the industry’s leading artists such as Bishop Larry D. Trotter, Mark S. Hubbard,  Deitrick Haddon and many others.

As Michael toured the nation with world renowned, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, he debuted his talents at Carnegie Hall in New York and other famous establishments. He has also  toured and performed with many other artists such as Fred Hammond, Angela Spivey, Kirk Franklin, Dorthy Norwood, Phil Perry, Commisioned, Angelo and Veronica, Derrick Brinkley, Morris Chapman, just to name a few!

He loves to work “from scratch” in the studio with the artists on “bomb” tracks and songs”. The  late famed producer, Skip Scarborough (Earth, Wind and Fire, ConFunkShun, Anita Baker, The BodyGuard Soundtrack etc.), had also sought out his original and exceptional sounds in  projects under  development.

“I recall hearing a knock on the door while in production on a recording project,” says Michael. It was an executive of Ripple FX (one of the major commercial production companies in Indianapolis) who said he had stopped in because he was impressed with the sound he was hearing. From there, explains Michael, things started snowballing. Michael has been involved with many high profile projects including the theme song for the Indiana Pacers Basketball Team, Circle Centre Mall in downtown Indianapolis, JD Byrider Automotive, Meijer Stores and many others.

Among the many awards and national recognition, Michael has received a Dove Award nomination for his production of the Keith Staten album entitled “No Greater Love”, Integrity Music. Also, in his credits are numerous awards for television and radio commercials. Michael also produced for Gospel Superstar Songstress Vickie Winans, who received a Stellar Award nomination for the album “ Happy Holidays” on Destiny Joy Records.

Not only is Michael recognized for his personal achievements, he also finds time to contribute back to the community. Columbia College Downtown Chicago, (one of the leading arts and communication schools in the nation), has acquired Michael Houston as an instructor for aspiring producers and composers. “I love teaching! It is inspiring to see the students faces when they learn the “real deal” about the music business, not just book knowledge,” says Michael.

Also, in the works is a new artist development company by which Michael Houston plans to continue helping new artists plant themselves firmly into the industry...... more to come!

From sizzling hot remixes to theme songs for the NBA, Michael Houston is always looking “Just Ahead” and down the road for possibilities.
