Chill 2 This Us Release
Indianapolis- Michael Houston- cataloged a unique collection of musical moments which creation dates span as early as 1990, tightly arranged songs that combine flowing melodies, thick bass-lines, well thought out production with attention to detail along with sparse but literate vocal stylings. As a producer, Houston has recorded many high profile projects including theme song for the Indiana Pacers Basketball team (NBA), Dove Award nominated artist Keith Staten (Integrity Records), Phil perry, Kirk franklin and many others.
The Chill 2 This release takes its name from track 2 on the project. By the same token, the title track "Chill 2 This" speaks more for the feeling that the listener experiences when listening to this refreshing work of art. It has been noted by non Jazz listeners that it is easy to fall in love with Houston's music. The albums artwork and color tones even exemplify the musical diversity and colorful tones reflected in the music. The songs on this album represent personal inspiration and reflection that one might have experienced during good times and fond memories in ones life.
the album contains two popular hits "Tell Me Its Real"- K-Ci & JoJo and wanna Be With You- Earth Wind & Fire. Also featured are thirteen original tracks including "Questions" (lyric written by Tonya Martin) an enchanting lyric and melody asking the question many of us have pondered "Do You Love Me", "Latin Summer" an upbeat, funky summertime drive cut, "Paradise" (lyric written by Charles Harris) a more traditional jazz feel with a vocal that reminds one of a young Roberta Flack, and "Know You" a soulful bass-line and rhythm section with a driving but warm Fender Rhodes electric piano.
The albums track "Sacrifice" recorded in 1996 explains why it took Houston so long to compile this first solo effort... this music is timeless! No need to rush a good thing. It would be an interesting find to follow the timeline of when Houston first started on this record until its completion.
